Online Degrees and Certificates in Telecommunications

"NACTEL is one of the first partnerships of major telecom companies working together with their unions to advance training and education in our industry. NACTEL offers programs that reflect the latest developments in the dynamic world of telecommunications and we at CWA value our association in this partnership."
-- Morton Bahr, President

The following online learning opportunities are now available to CWA members, sponsored by NACTEL (the National Coalition for Telecommunications Education & Learning) a leading training and education resource:

· Intro to Telecommunications Certificate
· Essentials of Telecommunications Certificate
· A.S. Degree in Telecommunications
· Accelerated B.S. in Professional Technology Studies, with a concentration in Telecommunications

The A.S. degree and certificate programs provide a solid foundation in basic telephony, signal transmission, data transmission, digital and microprocessor fundamentals, emerging technologies, and more.

The new Accelerated B.S. degree program builds on that knowledge and offers an in-depth understanding of emerging technologies (broadband, wireless, voice over IP, fiber optics), organizational practices, teamwork, and career development skills.

NACTEL's online learning format helps working adults earn college credit and gain industry-specific knowledge to enhance their job-related skills:

- instructor-led courses taught online by nationally accredited Pace University
- the flexibility of 24/7 online access to courses, allowing studies to fit into a busy work and family schedule

NACTEL prepares students for a wide range of technical careers, including network technician, customer services technician, engineering specialist and more. (See NACTEL's Career information page.)

Pace's NACTEL curriculum was developed by the industry, for the industry, with input from partners including the CWA, the IBEW, Verizon, Qwest, SBC and Citizens/Frontier, ensuring that the knowledge gained can be directly applied on the job. And, the coursework is standardized for the industry, so students can use their skills wherever they go.

Requirements include a computer, Internet access and the ability to send and receive email daily. A new student orientation session provides training on the course software.
