A safety committee plays a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of its members. Here are some specific duties of a safety committee:

  1. Identifying Hazards: They conduct regular workplace surveys to identify potential safety hazards and document any issues.
  2. Developing Safety Plans: They create and implement safety procedures and protocols to address identified risks.
  3. Promoting Safety Awareness: They engage with union members and stewards to discuss health and safety concerns and promote a culture of safety
  4. Conducting Training: They organize training sessions to educate members about safety practices and emergency procedures
  5. Investigating Incidents: They investigate workplace accidents and incidents to determine causes and recommend preventive measures.
  6. Reviewing Safety Policies: They regularly review and update safety policies to ensure they are effective and compliant with regulations

By fulfilling these roles, a safety committee helps to create a safer and healthier work environment for all union members.
