TAMEKA WHITE
Originally from Chicago, she has lived in Indiana since she was 13 years old. She has worked full-time at IUN for 7 years. She started working there as a work-study as the receptionist in the Chancellor’s Office, and now has worked full-time for seven years. She graduated from Hammond High School. She started her higher education journey at Purdue University Calumet, but transferred to IUN after the birth of her lovely daughter. It has been an amazing experience as a student as well as an employee. She joined the Union because she believes in the foundation on which unions are built. She’d like to see change in the areas of salaries as well as solidarity among the staff because she feels our union is undervalued until assistance is needed. Her vision of the future of the Union is that she’d love to see our staff be comfortable with vocalizing their visions for change. Hers is to continue to build our Union, to strengthen our members through continued efforts to review policies for areas of negotiation, and to build our unity. After work, she relaxes by doing activities with her daughter, cooking, reading, DIY projects around the house and swimming.
